Is This A Drag Show?
A drag show is the type of production featuring multiple drag artists lip-synching, singing, dancing, and more to give the audience a very entertaining variety show. “Don’t Ask, I’ll Tell” is a one-person-show, featuring a non-binary cabaret artist, Vivian Lawrence, who tells her story from beginning to end with a through-line of story and narrative. In short, no this is not a drag show.
-
But, Isn't Vivian Lawrence A Drag Queen?
How nice of you to ask. Vivian doesn’t classify herself as a drag queen in the way of Rupaul’s Drag Race. She is a non-binary cabaret artist that embodies both male and female aspects of her persona, but prefers to go by she/her pronouns. So, not a drag queen, but still a queen, honey!
-
Is Vivian a man or a woman?
Yes. Both, neither, all, none. Vivian identifies as a queer, non-binary individual. One person described her as having “masculine energy with a feminine aire”.
-
How did Vivian survive in the army?
Vivian’s experience in the military was one of inclusion and safe spaces, despite what one might think. She talks about all the ins and outs of military deployment as a queer soldier so come see for yourself!
-
Will there be music?
You bet your army brass there is! Covering songs by Elton John, The Eagles, Joni Mitchell, and a couple from your favorite animated 90s films, Vivian will have you on your feet and singing along, with the amazing Ray Fellman at the keys!
-
Will there be a talk-back after the show?
Yes! There will be a brief talk-back after every performance where the audience will be able to ask questions about the show and about Vivian herself.
